DRONE SECURITY & SECURE AUTONOMY
AeroGuard
A security layer for trusted drone commands and protected telemetry.
AeroGuard is AIC’s software and hardware framework for securing uncrewed aerial systems. It is designed to validate commands, protect telemetry and enforce operational policies across enterprise and defence drone integrations. Currently at technology readiness level 4; contact AIC to discuss evaluation and integration requirements.

Key Differentiator
A vendor-neutral security layer between mission-control software and the flight controller, with integration assessed against each platform.
Drone cybersecurity for enterprise and defence
AeroGuard is being developed to help organisations strengthen the security boundary between drone mission-control software, flight controllers and telemetry services. The framework combines software controls with hardware security integration, using C# and .NET 10.
The AeroGuard project is at technology readiness level 4. This page describes its intended capabilities and evaluation scope. Operational suitability and supported configurations must be established for each deployment.
Protecting the command and telemetry boundary
Unverified command paths, third-party interfaces and uncontrolled telemetry routes can expose drone operations to spoofing, unauthorised access and loss of sensitive information. Operators need to understand which endpoints can issue commands, where data travels and how actions can be reviewed.
A controlled layer between mission software and aircraft
AeroGuard’s design places security middleware between mission-control applications and the flight controller. It validates commands, checks signed flight plans and geofences, protects telemetry channels and records control interactions for review.
Integration is assessed against the aircraft, controller interfaces, communications links and operating environment. The project includes edge, Azure and on-premise deployment paths, with disconnected operation as a design requirement.
What an evaluation should establish
An evaluation should establish authorised command flows, telemetry protection, policy enforcement, integrity monitoring and audit evidence within an agreed test environment. It should also identify controller compatibility, communications constraints and the assurance work needed before operational use.
Potential applications include defence and government UAS programmes, emergency response, and critical infrastructure inspection. Contact AIC with your aircraft platform, mission-control stack, network constraints and intended use to discuss a suitable evaluation scope.
Security and assurance
The project design includes AES-256 and TLS-secured telemetry, signed operational policies, runtime integrity checks and command logging. These controls are intended to reduce exposure to unauthorised commands and data access.
AeroGuard is in development. Cryptographic configuration, hardware integration, key management and assurance evidence must be reviewed for the target environment before operational use.
Capabilities
Command validation; encrypted telemetry; signed flight plans and geofences; runtime integrity monitoring; command audit trails; disconnected operation design.
Integrations
C# / .NET 10; mission-control applications; compatible flight-controller interfaces; Azure and on-premise environments. Controller support is assessed during technical discovery.
Identity Support
Authorised command endpoints and signed policy validation; deployment-specific identity integration.
Data Residency
Designed for controlled on-premise, edge and cloud environments. Data routing and residency are agreed for each integration.
Encryption
AES-256 and TLS-secured telemetry in the project design; cryptographic profiles require deployment-specific validation.
